We’re renovating our kitchen and this is the basic idea we have for it so far:

Deep red cherry wood cabinets
Black granite for the counter-top
Stainless steel appliances

I’m thinking of definitely using a light gray *something* (slate, stone, ceramic, etc) for either the backsplash or the floor.

But I’m at a loss of what I should use for the backsplash (if we go with the light gray floor) or for the floor (if we go with the light gray backsplash). Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry, I don’t necessarily mean material (or material only)…I mean colorwise.

I do want something lighter to contrast the darkness well, and I thought gray would be nice because it is neutral yet still a cool shade

Best answer about What tile should I choose with dark cabinets, black granite counter-top, and stainless steel appliances?

There is a metallic looking tile out there that comes in a dark silver, it also comes in copper color.
They are plain and some with geo patterns and some that have fruit on them, some are raised patterns Check them out and if you don’t want to use all of just that tile you could mix in some slate.
Also consider hammered aluminum….looks really cool!
Have fun!

run the splash all the way up under the upper cabinets in the same granite –
    granite tiles are ok
make sure that there is under cabinet lighting hidden behind a fascia set back from the
face of the same upper cabinets — this will “wash” the splash with light ……… very attractive at night — make sure the lights are on dimmers.

I’d bring the granite up a little bit for your backspalsh and then just paint the rest with a color that will pop against all the dark wood, granite, tile, etc.

Go for a combination of shades of a natural color stone. If you can find a tile you like for the floor ask if the same tile comes in smaller sizes and use it for the back splash. Best thing to do is go to a tile showroom and look at the possibilities. They are endless. You are definitely not limited to gray. As a matter of fact, you’ll hate it later. Good luck.
